Mary Louise Alcantara


Mary Louise Macanaya-Alcantara is a soprano, music educator, choral conductor, andwriter. She nished a Diploma in Music and a Bachelor’s Degree in Music major in Voice, cumlaude, at the University of the Philippines College of Music under Prof. Ma. Cecilia Valeña.

She had appeared in various produc$ons such as Dvorak’s Rusalka (First Woodsprite),Almario/Toledo’s San Andres B (Koro/Ninang). In 2015, she was invited by the BarasoainKalinangan Founda$on, Inc, which premiered “Pasyon” by Ato del Rosario in the PragueQuadrennial 2015 (PQ15). She had the privilege to be mentored by interna$onal musicians suchas Nelly Miricioiu, Claire Primrose, and Arthur Espiritu through voice masterclasses.

She is an alumna of the Philippine Madrigal Singers. She was part of the group who wonthe 2007 European Grand Prix for Choral Singing in Arezzo, Italy.

She is the founder and conductor of the Shrine of Jesus Children and Youth Choir. Thegroup serves at the Shrine of Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life in Pasay City and hasperformed in choral fes$vals, concerts, and outreach performances in venues like the CulturalCenter of the Philippines, Philamlife Auditorium, San Sebas$an Basilica, GSIS Museum, andNa$onal Museum among others.

Currently, she teaches at the Asian Ins$tute for Liturgy and Music, is the AssistantSecretary-General for the Philippine Choral Directors Associa$on (PCDA), and is the ProgramDirector for the Na$onal Music Compe$$ons for Young Ar$sts (NAMCYA).

She will be perfoming “Sisa” in the upcoming produc$on of Noli Me Tangere at theCultural Center of the Philippines in January 2017.
